A message from Monique:
"This painting I created for the WFM show and prints is titled, Big Sister, Little Sister. As I was
ruminating on the many causes that would be benefitted by the sale of the painting and prints,
I thought of the love and protection a mother, grandmother, sister, or good friend has for the
ones they love. I also thought of how a father would cherish, love and protect his daughters and
wife. As I painted the flowers, they had such a lovely relationship to each other and I felt that
love, nurture and protection was what I wanted to convey with the larger flowers looking over
the small one in the lower area. The Lord likes to use my work to bring people into and feel His
love around them. This “watching over with love” is the theme of “Big Sister, Little Sister”.

Monique Sarkessian is an award-winning, highly collected artist specializing in vibrant paintings and sculptures that evoke transformation and celebration. For her, art, faith, and family are central to life, especially after overcoming a significant loss. Her art serves as a joyful exploration and a "messenger of eternal love," reflecting her spiritual connection and daily experiences. Born to Armenian parents, she infuses her work with rich colors and textures, inspired by her upbringing and her father's creative spirit. Sarkessian knew she wanted to be a painter from a young age, later graduating from Tyler School of Art and exhibiting her work widely, including in museums, universities, and internationally. Her unique artistic process involves layering, texturing, deconstruction, and rebuilding, making each piece a distinct journey. Deeply compassionate towards children's causes, and having experienced the tragic loss of a child, Sarkessian is particularly drawn to the Wilmington Flower Market because its proceeds benefit children's programs, aligning with her desire to contribute and bring joy.
